  1. In more cow related news: depressed dairy farmer kills his herd, self.
  2. I bet those things would taste great on the grill with a side order of fries.
  3. Here is a video of the same subject: http://www.comcast.net/video/egypt-slaves-...ast/1382570085/
  4. I watched Ian McKellan's Richard III, set in a 1930's fascist England. Visually stunning, clever, energetic, almost whimsical. But they cut out some key lines, and the ending was just terrible.

    Going to Athens

Oh, lucky dog. Be sure to check out the new museum there.
  6. It did seem like it used to focus on WWII more than anything else. But that was better than 'documentaries' on UFOs or Biblical Prophecies.
  7. This sarcastic blog post about sums it up. In the last 10 years, the History Channel has gone from being one of the few interesting things on TV to a cesspool of reality TV shows and X-Files like expos on the paranormal.
  8. I think those dates are pretty solid as far as the archaeological evidence allows. There is just no way refugees from Troy could have ended up in Carthage.
  9. Ditto. Makes me want to be Indiana Jones. I'm sure the next decade will bring some amazing discoveries from the Amazon!
  10. The lesson I learned from this simulator: the key to fending off a zombie attack is to have a well armed citizenry.
  11. There was a made-for-TV movie by USA network called "Atilla." I never watched it but I heard it was awful. Edit: maybe that is what Lanista is referencing.

  13. Is that the recent BBC version of Robin Hood with a really hot Maid Marion who somehow knows Kung-fu? Or am i thinking of something else?
  14. We have the "What's the latest book you read?" thread, so here is the DVD version. I recently watched the 3rd season of "The Tudors." Then I watched "An Age of Kings" by the BBC. How about you?

    Sol Invictus

Well, as I am sure our moderators have impressed upon you by now, it is not for you to lecture to us what is expected of us. It is not for you to lecture us at all, for that matter, which you seem to do constantly. In other words, we're here to engage in friendly discussion and information sharing. We're not here to score perceived points against strangers in some kind of debating club of sophistry. I realize scholars aren't the last word on anything - that scholarly views are overturned regularly by other scholars. And that is fine. However, I still trust established scholarly views more than I trust the sophistry of some random, haughty, lecturing, internet handle. In other words, your opinion is not as great as you seem to think it is, and I see no reason to dispute the issue based on your musings. (This post made with permission of a moderator)
  16. It at least fixed the order. Thanks!
  17. My Blog doesn't recognize 2010 as a valid year. It sets 2006 as the default, and only goes up to 2009.
  18. That cranky Santa made my day, actually. I had a god holiday but I am glad it is over.
  19. We are all going to die of Gamma Rays
  20. There will be a 4th and final season for the Tudors.
  21. I just finished season 3 on DVD. I think every season loses a bit in quality. For one thing, semi-important characters are just written off with no explanation. The Duke of Norfolk from Season 1 and the ArchBishop of Canteberry from Season 2 just disappear. For another thing, the series can't make up its mind whether it wants to be about sex or history. Season 1 was about sex, Season 2 was about history, Season 3 seems to try to straddle the line. Still, I can watch it, compared to most things on American TV.

    Sol Invictus

It is generally accepted that is the consecration date of Aurelian's new temple (in 274 CE) to Sol Invictus.
  23. Oh, I could think of a few very politically incorrect things. Cheers.
