  1. thanx for the info on that stuff that pretty much asnwers my question that I had "bit of a reader though it is" (says yoda)
  2. so in essence barter was a somewhat effective means of coinage between different cultures/ language barriers. but at the same time there seems to be a bit of a dispute about actual metal coinage, but werent just about anything considered coinage like for example(in slight relation to bartering betwwn the different cultures) beads or stuff in similar fashion (you know stuff that could be held in large quantity but small enough to hold in two hands max-most of the time), the reason I bring this part up is becuase I remember reading an article or two about something like this that other cultures used to do (like the north american indians- or most that I remember at the moment) but i also remember hearing something like that wiht the romans intill a certian periond when ""coinage"" was being invented in a sense.
  3. I wouldnt rule him out completely. There is good evidence to suggest that a king by the name of arthur existed in the region of wales. The mythical stories that go with him are unlikely to be true but the exsistence of the name, many archeologists believe is true. so as i would believe arthur was a story of a hero to give us hope to provail over the bad
  4. so thanx fer the info on the "famous king arthur", but in a way there had too have been at least one or two merc platoons or something similar at least right?
  5. what kind of money did the romans use and what were the amounts per each set(i fyou get what i am thinking) and did the romans(all of the working class any way)get wages or any thing like that. I know the soldiers did and the higher ups also but what about the rest??
  6. I once heard a discussion on "king arthur and his knights" and how they were like a special kind of merc platoon in a way, even though king arthur probably never was a real person, from what i have read on this discussion there seems to be something similar to that the licters and the like but were there actually true mercenary's who were like the roman knights (sorry mongolian horsemen)(I think so any way) that killed to protect "the roman empire" or at least the "glory of it" so in a way they were like assasins or something similar other then the cavlary or special unit cavlary.
  7. Mine would be another legacy weapon of the Iberians... The Falcata A sword with the power of an axe. Could cut a shield or render a helmet useless... For offensive combat, a short gladius in the left hand and a falcata in the right was hard to match. Render the shield useless with a blow from the falcata and thrust in with the gladius... :pimp: never such true words said i will have to agree with you on that
  8. sorry I dont mean to be offending but horse i would try it if i was drunk (not saying that I wouldn't try it sober though)

    Gladiator

Personally I loved the movie I thought it was great. i know that the historical values were way off (meaning they had it all thrown in there) but still the spaniard (i think thats how you spell that) is the best person there. I do have to say when the romans fought the gauls, i think it might have bein relitivly close to what some of the battles were like.
  17. My family and I were discussing varius thing the other night when we came apon the topic of religion and I had once heard that roman catholics were one of the oldest religions when it came to christianity, now my problem is when did the romans start believing or (start the religion). if some one could give me some insight on this stuff ( i am confused on the whole matter) sincerly brotus maximus A.K.A kris
  18. Well to the remark about if the dogs were properly trained and had one person controlling them, well I dont really know if that would work all that well unless used for a quick get in get out type job like as mentioned like, maybe against cavlery or maybe snouting for scouts or people trying to get close to the peticular army. But at the same time I can kinda see a couple of downfalls to using dogs, I may be wrong on a couple of things or straying but hear me out... here are just a few I thought of: 1. to get to the idea of horses and the use of the dogs, it all depends on the breed that they were using and how well they were trained, the horses were probably used to things like dogs and things attacking them whilst they kept their load(the guys) on as best the could and the noise of battle(some how I dont think you could hear the dogs to well, barking wise i mean). where would the dogs attack(or go for) and what would pe the possibility of them getting stomped or kicked or even trampled. 2.with the one person controlling them: (1.) how would they control them, (2.)what happens if the person in question croaks because of what ever means that got them, would the dog be trianed on how to deal with that? I know the last one has some speculations in it but, you know you have to think what the big points(and some minor)are and how they affect everything. thanks for hearing me out And as a last and final thought- obvoisly the dogs weren't to succsessfull becuase they have bein menchioned a coupel of times in history that I am aware of.(sorry for the bad spelling I have bein up for 32 hrs and counting sighning out brotus
