  4. a couple of summers ago i remember stumbling apon a fictional book in a british public libary (in bury saint edmonds if u must know) and the book was called "Spartan" and it was a dam good book though it was by this older gentleman who had a greek sounding name if any one has at all read this book and actualy know the authers name (oh the book was about a guy who's story starts when he is a child and his dad dies in a famoud battle that had the romans in it i think, also i think he also looked after sheep and also a brother but i remember that his family was murderd or something like that) if any ine know's the name of the auther pleas let me know i badly want to read the book again i thought the book was awresome. sincerly brotus maximus A.K.A Riddick

  6. yes i believe Steve Irwin god rest his soul was a good man and dedicated to helping the world learn about the wild animals out there and and to make us realize that there are other things out there besides us and that we cant be just taking up all the habitat for our own populas to get bigger and even crueler to the outside world. that and he helped me open my eyes to the wild kindom in which we are all a part. STEVE IRWIN WE ALL WILL MISS YOU REST IN PEACE MAN AND HAPPY CROC HUNTING IN YOUR DREAMS
  7. the way that i see it is that Dan Brown who like many authers dont get alot of credit for what they write and sometimes it can take years to get their works published, now since i said that i go om to say that with dan brown i see that if i were him and i wanted to get good fame i would write a book that not only sparks the interest of the crowd i am aiming for but i want a book everyone will talk about for a while. i also believ the book is completely false and if the dates are off then eh so be it it still makes for an interesting book and has everyone talking about it and all right??? please no one take offence to what i have said i just think that thats all(about the book and movie any way) p.s i think that tom hanks shouldnt have played that role it was a bad move for him considering the controversy over the movie and book sincerly B.M
  8. i apsalutly agree at one point the roman army was quite possibly the best army not to mention not to be messed with but still even then they still had their defeats as every other major army in history has had at their prime you just dont here about those defeats as much when they are constantly winning becuase their winning over shadows the defeats and there for are less mention, ya the defeats are mentioned(or at least some of them) but in minor details that make it look even less like a defeat and more like a scrap that a few auxil troops had. Not to mention that because of the awesome look of the army it became a over gloryfied killing machine and was expected to win every battle they went into. which points out to another forum post sort of the fact that as the ages progressed the army was becoming more and more less trained and prepared to go into battle becuase the main units that were being put in were more and more auxilary fighters till they became the main unit for the army and i think thats what helped them become the "shadow of the glory days of old" becuase they kept losing more and more battles and kept losing more and more troops (along with more and more money) so they besicly created teir own downfall if they were known as "steamrolling over their enemys"
  9. and to that is there the possibility that the roman cavalry used bows or other throwable objects at the pikesmen or other like infantry to try and break them up(like running within a certian distance(throwing or shooting distance). is it also possible that in conjunction with having the cavalry, the use of catapults and balistea and the like at the same time to break the formations of the said pikesmen and like ingfantry so the cavalry could ruch in and do a mass assault or something like that.... right?? (if not i am curois to see what stradagys were used(sorry my spelling is bad tonight i got too much caffien in me hehe)
  10. so in relation to all this what do you think of the divinci code???? any one like to give their opinians and thoughts about it???

  12. i would love to participate in it hehe it would add to my overall book colelction that i am reading right now i would be interested in neros killing machine or the punic wars book(either of them) thanx a bunch
  13. so in a sense of the word i think the last post i did what i was trying to say was that even though the main idea of christanity and catholics was to worship the Lord and Jesus Christ and the numeras saints that are based on the different geographysof the world(cause if u look a little u can see what i mean by it)but thats where it ends, so i go on to say that yes the people have that understanding of those "beliefs" it is like the way i see it for instance the people that are islamic jihad their islamic but they are basing their religios beliefs on their own ideas of what it is and have their own way of interprating what the messeges are fro their holy book(some jihads not saying islamic but some even have some of the rules changed to suit their jihad) any way hopefully i dont start an argument with what said sincerly BrOtUs MaXiMuS A.K.A kris
  14. when it comes to religion the way i've come to see it is that it is based on many things one of which i am going to speak here in which think is important is that one man see's his religon on based on his values and therefore will see his religion a slightly different way then everyone else around him, so in a way everyones religion is based on the same morales and fundumental values and ideas but their own believes are different from everyone else. if any one can understand this good cause i confused my self sincerly brotus maximus A.K.A kris

  18. i think mainly the punic wars so if that would help me more(what about the battle of carhea)i think thats how you spell carhea??
  19. i am currently looking ofr books on roman warfare and the wars(especially the wars) so if any one can give a title or two that would be most helpfull to me for sure
  20. i have to say that is a fair rule completely, but........ evry once in a while you have to let someone think what it would be like to take the helenistic phalanx against the might of sauromans(please exuse my spelling of his name) might and dreaded halforc-goblin army. that would honsetly be a good thread to read
  21. so as I siad before to catch the opponent off guard to get them to slip so you can go in and ah-ha! you got them with your own weapon(hopefully)
  22. Have to disagree with you there I'm afraid In the hands of a Roman soldier it most definitely was used as a weapon to hit the enemy, using the boss to punch with, and the edges to smack on an enemy's foot or up into his chin to make him falter or lose balance. Search around for reenactor accounts of its use in this way. Jim. so in a way it could be used for slight offence but nothing in the way of all out like with the use of the smaller arm sheilds the gladiators(or some of them any way) used in battle. but they could be used to catch an enemy off guard enough to slip (hopefully) a sword in and give a quick job to the enemy
  23. they threw about a couple thousend at a time(so i've heard) and the ranks were evenly spaced apart that they could get enough room to have at least a decent throw(as some one said so when the enemy got in range of the first couple rows they let loos so to speak (just think of how the volleys of arrows were used to knock down ranks of incoming enemys(or that was the hope anyway ) if i am wrong in any of this you guys let me know so i can learn what the proper stuff is sincerly BrOtUs MaxImUs
