Enormous Roman mosaic found under farmer's field A giant poolside mosaic featuring intricate geometric patterns has been unearthed in southern Turkey, revealing the far-reaching influence of the Roman Empire at its peak. The mosaic, which once decorated the floor of a bath complex, abuts a 25-foot-long (7-meter long) pool, which would have been open to the air, said Michael Hoff, a University of Nebraska, Lincoln art historian and director of the mosaic excavation. The find likely dates to the third or fourth century, Hoff said. The mosaic itself is an astonishing 1,600 square feet (149 square meters)

I am not sure from an archaeological point of view but from ambiente and style an incredible setting for a hockey game... this weekend in the ebel hockey league ( the league consist of teams from austria, croatia, hungary, slovenia plus one team from czech republic) first game on friday Ljubljana vs. Zagreb and than on sunday Vienna vs. Zagreb. considering that this is open air and currently 30 degrees celsius (86F) during the day, i am very curious how the ice will hold up hehe...

...no news in english language, but this is really great stuff, just a few miles from where i live was a bishop seat with three, possible four churches and several clerical buildings discovered and that just 30cm below the surface. No object is dated so far older than 350 AD.
