  1. Scientists at Dundee University have helped to recreate the face of a man dubbed the Iron Age David Beckham because of evidence he gelled his hair. Clonycavan Man, named after the area he was found, was one of two bodies discovered in a peat bog in the Republic of Ireland in 2003. The chemical composition of the peat mummified the body, enabling scientists to recreate his face. full article at the BBC
  2. The discovery of Roman artifacts, possibly from JRR Tolkien's dig at the Lydney Park Estate, is proving far from an open and shut case. An early 20th century suitcase containing ancient pottery has been handed to the county council after it was found at a quarry near the Severnside town. full article at This is Gloucestershire
  3. I think those two have set their blog that every comment needs to be approved by them before they show... you have to talk to them in person if they havent approved the comments yet... cheers viggen

  7. I find it hard to see how any information Google could provide would help the Government in this case. Sounds to me more like the Government is trying to set a legal precedent and is using Child Pornography merely as an excuse. Later if they get them, they can look for whatever they want in there (..requests for the pages of political parties ..whatever ) IMO This is just an attempt by the evangelical churches via the government to eventually ( if they get away with this "request" ) say what can and can't be hosted in the US and what can and cant be accessed from the US .. The anti childpron is just their smoke and mirrors to hide their agenda .. cheers viggen
  8. sorry, but i thought it is time for a little (just a little) change cheers viggen
  9. btw. did you know that the casual greeting form in austria is "servus (latin.slave, probably the original meaning to be your servant or something along those lines") and it is not like we use it just sometimes, no we use it all the time... it is the austrian way of saying hello! cheers viggen

  11. Johann who? ...you might ask, well he was a great baroque composer and his Canon in D is well known and very often played, a classic so to speak... Now take Johann Pachelbel`s work Canon in D and add a brilliant taiwanese with a hot electric guitar and you get that! i only say WOW regards viggen
  12. somehow i dont get it, whats the difference if i measure it this way or that way, the distance is the same, and obviously the units (like with PP`s american football example) were made to accomodate those units in an understandable way, because in soccer for example a penalty is from 11 meters and not from 12.0297463 yards... to sum it up, blame someone else and not the romans because they used neither yards nor meters... cheers viggen
  13. Just found out that some folks at Google seem to like the roman empire too http://www.google.com/intl/la/ now who finds the first error? cheers viggen
  14. Spanish investigators believe they may have found proof that neanderthal man reached Europe from Africa not just via the Middle East but by sailing, swimming or floating across the Strait of Gibraltar. Prehistoric remains of hunter-gatherer communities found at a site known as La Cabililla de Benz
  15. Archaeologists working in Sicily's Valley of the Temples have found traces of a settlement thought to pre-date the famous Greek temples built there in around 600 BC . The valley near Agrigento on Sicily's southern coast is one of Europe's most important archeological sites. It marks a sacred area built when Greeks landed there to start the civilisation of Magna Grecia in southern Italy . via Ansa.it

  22. grilled coakroaches, actually they didnt taste bad at all, where did i get them you may ask? hehe, i think it was back in 1999 when there was something like (cant remember exactly) "Eat the insects day" at the Johannesburg Zoo, and there, hundreds of dishes made from insects were on offer... cheers viggen
  23. actually it got to austria much earlier After the slaying of Montezuma during the Spanish invasion of Hernando Cortez, the crown was confiscated by the Spaniards. The gold helmet was melted down into bars and the feathered head piece was sent as a present to Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Spain (known there as Charles I) 1500-1558. Charles V was also the Archduke of Austria where the Hapsburg dynasty had their residence. so i believe the artifact is now already longer in austria then it has ever been in mexico... regards viggen

President Vicente Fox will personally ask for its return at a summit of Latin American and European leaders in Vienna in May if there is no progress before then. full article at Reuters (i have seen those feathers in the Museum in Vienna, they are beautiful, here are some pics)
