  4. The diplomat is from Yemen, and the embassador has been called into the departement of internal affairs, i believe the diplomat will be expelled from austria, but thats it. Diplomats are untouchable, at least he missed the poor dude but imagine if an ordinairy citizen would have shot right through a busy hotel lounge, i guess a couple of years in jail would be the possible outcome...p.s. The embassador from Yemen said on our news the diplomat will leave austria immediately and he apologized for this incident..
  5. An ancient rock carving has been uncovered near Chesters Roman Fort. The carving of a 40cm high figure, holding a shield in one hand and spear or sword in the other, was found at Carr Edge near the fort by a team of rock carving experts. It was uncovered by a team of enthusiastic local volunteers looking for prehistoric rock art as part of the Northumberland and Durham rock art project
  6. Well this is not going to make headline news around the world, but it makes me angry. In a few words; A diplomat wants his shoes polished in a noble hotel in Vienna. The bootblack tells him that he is now on a break and he has to wait a bit. The diplomat gets upset starts arguing and eventuelly fires a shot at the bootblack... Now nothing is going to happen to the diplomat, "Diplomatic immunity ", All we can do is tell him to leave the country... Do you feel this is right?

  14. i am probably outing myself as a complete novice to this Lapis Niger szenario, but here it goes anyway... How do we know this is so old (the stone) and if the stone is for some reason be dated correctly, how do we know the inscription hasnt been carved in later... (because then we knew why there was such a long gap, right?) cheers viggen

  17. Stone tools found at one of the South's most important early prehistoric sites could date back 250,000 years, archaeologists claim. The historic finds were uncovered at a former gravel quarry on the Isle of Wight during digs last summer. full article at the BBC
  18. The preserved footprints and abandoned homes of villagers who fled a giant eruption of Mount Vesuvius 3,800 years ago show the volcano could destroy modern-day Naples with little warning, Italian and U.S. researchers reported on Monday. The eruption buried entire villages as far as 15 miles (25 kilometres) from the volcano, cooking people as they tried to escape and dumping several feet (metres) of ash and mud. full article at Yahoo News
  19. The oldest known remains of seafaring ships have been identified in a series of cave stores on the Red Sea coast of Egypt. Built of cedar and acacia wood, the ships had been attacked by marine worms, and the site seems to have been a shipbreaker

  24. A lost Roman palace lies beneath a forgotten wartime bunker in York and could contain priceless treasures, according to a leading archaeologist. Paul Bidwell, who is an expert in reconstructing Roman remains, has spent a year studying sites in York in preparation for a major exhibition on Emperor Constantine which opens in the city's Yorkshire Museum at the end of this month. full article at YorkshirePost
