One of the loveliest places on Earth

Pantagathus

This is a picture I took of the Whalehead Club in Corolla, North Carolina on the Outer Banks.

This was built as a hunting lodge in the 1920's. When I was a kid it was a couple of hours trip one way in 4X4 through the dunes to get there (when abandoned).

Now of course by road it takes 30 minutes. It's been elegantly restored as you can see. The ancestors of the wild horses left by numerous shipwrecks during the 17th & 18th centuries still roam free in Corolla. though now they graze mostly on the manacured lawns of million dollar homes...

The lighthouse in the background is the 'Currituck'

Imposing. What is or was hunted in this area?

Exclusively waterfowl. The Currituck Sound is right behind me from where I took the picture from.

Though, for conservation reasons not much (if anything) is hunted there any more.
