Addiction

An addiction is a recurring compulsion by an individual to engage in some specific activity.

By that definition i am addicted to the internet,

..due to overload at work i can not log on to the net every day and it sucks, on an emotional and practical level...

...how did we manage without it before? (yeah i know we just were more outside sniffing fresh air, engange in recreational activities under something called sunlight and were talking with humans face to face)

If there is something called heaven and paradise it better have an internet connection, cause being without one for just a couple of days already seems aweful, never mind eternetiy...

So from Thursday to Tuesday I was without much computer use; I had left my AC adapter on one campus, and wasn't able to get back there until Tuesday. So I did one go-round online on Friday morning, just so I could pay bills, set things up for the month, etc., and then shut off my computer; I had something like 18 minutes of battery use, so I had nothing. I did check email twice on my brother's computer, but it was only the 'necessary' accounts (i.e. personal accounts) which get heavy traffic. No internet, no games, no nothing. Oh, and TV wasn't all that great, so I had but minor distractions. How did I cope?

During the day on Saturday and Sunday I was very busy with the new apartment, so once I got home, I was bushed and had no will to do much of anything, save for lay on my bed and turn on the TV. Friday night was much the same, too, as Fridays tend to wear me out. I caught up on some reading this weekend, and did a ton of grading. I outlined 2 exams (which I'll finish today), and a couple of other assignments. But, seriously, the only internet I had was on campus...and it felt...I don't know. On the one hand, it was great...I actually started reading another book (about the Spanish Civil War, which I'll talk about in my blog once I'm done), I played with my cat (Bella was very happy about this)...I sat out on my brother's deck and enjoyed the evening. Overall, I had a ton to do, and no distraction to keep me from them. Of course, as tired as I was, there was another distraction...my blankie and my pillow!
