It can cost about the same in college...it really depends on what your major is, where the books come from, etc. But there are always methods to get around the high cost of the bookstores. Most college bookstores list (in the store, and often online) the texts that are required for the course even a month or more before the start of the semester. All one has to do is get that list of what you need and do some comparative shopping. Half.com, Amazon, and local used bookstores are great sources. Just make sure that you get the same edition; oftentimes there are significant differences between editions, and one cannot substitute one for the other.
