Coming Out

Honorius

well the past year has seen many changes in my life. only the other week i finally came out to my parents about my sexuality.. i had told them a year ago that i thought i was but they came back witht he usual 'you dont know till your older' stuff. But when i told my parents the other week i got a rather unwelcome reply, my father looked rather sad, disapointed and ashamed so i started to get really pissed off because they always told me if i did turn out to be 'gay' they wouldnt care but they obviously did.. so ever since the day i told them their entire attitude towards me has changed they rarely show compassion and barely speak to me.. arguments between me and my parents have escalated and occur almost daily..even my entire school knows now i can just imagine them gossiping about it (catholic school).. but with the bad come the good i spose i am having more fun with my friends nowadays and kind of have a social life again...

anyway i also have my exams coming up  not a great time...

but on a good note 1453 i must say is an extremely detailed book and im pretty happy with it thanks again UNRV!!

If their perception of you has changed the way they act towards you, don't let your new perception of them change the way that you act as well. As long as you are still the child they know, they'll realize why they really love you.

::hugs:: I think that would be difficult for any parent, even if they do not object to homosexuality at all, it is still a shock to discover that your own child is homosexual, when they probably had dreams of seeing you get married, and raise a family. Of course you can still do these things, but not in the "traditional" way they were expecting. It will take them a while to get used to the idea, however I don't think that their disappointment is directed at you so much as it is directed at the dreams they may have had for you. Give them time.

I sincerely hope things get better for you.

Society is getting more open about this all all the time. I don't have any good advice on how to deal with the parents, unfortunately. But you should have a lot of breathing room if and when you run off to college.

You are fortunate to have accepted this about yourself at your young age. I can't say I struggled with my sexuality, but I denied parts of my self for a long time - and the longer you deny them, the more they bite back.

I'm new to the forum and just read this. I have to say, it takes a lot of courage to do what you've done. I've seen it first-hand in my family. My parents were kind of stunned when my sister came out to them. It definitely changed the interactions between them; it wasn't easy for my parents to hear. I come from a Catholic family as well.

I think that for a long time my parents thought it was just a phase. But it is now almost ten years later and they have accepted who she is and there can be no doubt that they love her, and indeed never stopped loving her. I hope your parents are similar in this regard and based on the information here, it sounds to me like they are.

Best of luck to you and your family.
