I Hate Grass

Moonlapse

I have some advise for anyone who will take it - do not buy a house on a 1/4 acre lot that is mostly covered in grass lawn, unless you are a lawn freak or have the finances to hire someone to maintain it.

There is street bordering three sides of the property, since I am at an intersection and on the edge of a cul-de-sac, and the lawn runs front, side and rear of the house. Anyways, one section is overrun with root suckers from a quaking aspen, another part is continuously eaten bare by the legion of rabbits in the neighborhood, there are huge spots dying from some disease or insect infestation, the section at the rear of the house is directly across the street from undeveloped land and has picked up more dandelions than grass, and the best part is that there is an utterly massive ant colony in the back yard. I'm talking about a bared mound of dirt bulging out of the earth roughly 6 feet in diameter, and I've found entranceways as far as 25 feet way from this mound.

I plan on absolutely ridding the back yard of grass and covering it with shredded bark with the addition of some trees and shrubbery *gasp*. I'm sure that no one likes to hear me complain, but at least maybe I can help someone avoid this type of thing.

I remember when i was in Namibia on holiday, all the houses in the town of Swakopmund were neat and looked pretty (old german style, it was a german colony) but somehowe something was missing, took me a couple of minutes......they had no grass around the house, just desert sand hehe...

lol my back yard used to be a horse pasture, and it has that kind of grass that cannot be mowed without a tractor or a sickle-bar. Seriously, a gas mower just *dies* trying to cut this stuff. So we don't cut it, it's really a pretty meadow full of all sorts of wildflowers and dandelions, but by the end of the summer the grass will be up over my head...and sometimes the thistles grow to over six feet tall :)

Our front yard is...sort of...well maintained, we've got a forsythia, a "pink bush" i can't identify, and a couple of dead roses >_> It's not terrible to mow, but the various things growing in it (not mention the ornamental cherries planted by the borough) make it slightly difficult. And the grass grows so fast that it needs done about every 3 days :)

My yard is huge. It is about a half an acre, the thing is our house is not that big! I hate it, I'm in the heat for at least 3 hours cutting grass. The mower stops because the grass is so wet and tall. Although its sometimes a good thing because I love playing soccer in it during summer.

Speaking of soccer Barcelona does not deserve it, give it to the true UEFA champions Arsenal. :)

Poke a few holes in the ant mound, pour gasoline down, and set it ablaze. Fun, fun, fun.

That was my first thought. :) But theres so much thatch that I havent raked yet and the house is sort of on a hill where it can be seen for a few miles, so I'm pretty sure that someone would phone the fire department. Then again, I do have home insurance.
