...so i didnt reach my goal of getting below 112 kilograms = 246.917734 pounds by yesterday but i was close, I guess that icecream yesterday with fresh strawberries made the difference, but it was worth it... ;)

Our local farmers came up with the idea to grow stuff and let consumers pick it for day to day use, it started about 15 years ago, not sure if that is also available in other countries, here its a big hit...

Right now its strawberry season and you cant get bigger, sweeter fresher and cheaper strawberries thant this; you go to the fenced field, pluck your strawberries and on the way out you pay for it, while you are in the fenced field you can eat as many strawberries as you like and all for free, so great for families with kids...

Later in the year the same concept will be available around my town with rasberries, blueberries and with blackberries,

I love going to the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains during late summer and fall to go berry picking and apple picking! And fresh apple cider...aw man!

Hmmm...I wonder if you can do the same strawberry picking in Castroville (the strawberry hub around here)...ooooooh....

(By the way...congrats!)

I generally don't have to leave home to pick my fill of brambles (AKA blackberries).

A few stray briars when we moved in with some judicious 'lack of pruning' have become a rampant series of bushes down one side of the garden providing fruit in abundance for a few pies and desserts in season and at least 15-20 lbs of bramble jelly each August - more than I need for a year's supply.

Similarly providing I remember to water them when like now we have had a long period of unseasonably dry weather we have alpine strawberries running rampant in one part of the garden and a few standard old-time favourites growing in raised beds.

Suffice to say when the fruit comes in we tend to get a bit bloated :)

thanks doc, interesting i thought California is way too hot for anything to grow other than oranges ;)

@Melvadius, if you dont have your own garden, than there is no better alternative than those pick yourself fields...

Oh I definitely agree - unfortunately several round here which were operating when we first moved into the area seem to have stopped trading.

Before you ask we only used tham a few times before we moved to our present house with its bigger garden and consequently more space for more fruit growing so I don't think the local pick-your-own farms failure is down to us not using them anymore.
