A Sad Thing Happened Today

I left out a rat trap to catch the pesky vermain that were eating the Strawberries outside of my house. I left this rat trap for about 2 days and I knew I should have snapped it but I was too lazy. Well this morrning I walked out to find a poor Sparrow caught in a death grip in the rat trap. It was the most heartbreaking site I have ever seen, and by the gods I almost cried, if I hadn't been so lazy such a fate would not have befallen the poor creature. The worst part about it was that it was still alive, so I took it out of the rat trap and put it in my hand and stayed with it until it died two minutes latter from loss of blood.

I felt it shudder, and it just looked at me as it slowly went on to the next world. It was horrible, :D:D

One day when I die I hope to see that same bird land on my shoulder when I pass on to Elyisum. I am glad I was with it as it died, I hope someone is with me.

Ever had that kind of expreince?

Twice...in the same week...

I accidentally hit a snake with my lawnmower. It was gashed open and bleeding...there was nothing that could have been done to save it...I don't know how long it would have lived...in pain...I smashed it's head with a rock to put it out of its misery :P

Then a few days later my pet chicken...who was really very sick...would not eat and was infested (you have never seen so many lice in one place by the Gods) with lice...they were in her eyes and in her throat so that she was choking trying to get them out...her skin literally craweled with them...eventually I had to shoot her...she wouldn't suffer any more...but when she started twitching Gods it almost killed me.

Yes, I've had those moments with pets I've put down. A cat we had for 12 years, my first dog when he was 12, another when he was five after escaping and drinking anti-freeze somewhere...come immediately to mind.

I was also there and holding on when my Father died (I was 19) and when my Mother died 18 years later. The elder generations had that experience in their lives, and while I don't wish it on any one...it really does help you understand death.

Before, I didn't fear death because I was young and therefor immortal :) , but after - even as I advance in years - I don't fear death because it IS the track for all of us. While I don't wish to hasten it, I do hope it will come on swift wing when it strikes (I've given up on glory :P ).

But even if it comes slowly, like the increasing time it takes me to warm-up on a winter day, I'll just say hello and pass the time of day as it will gladly stop for me. ;)
