Sitting on the subway this morning on my way to work I was reminded of an inccident that occurred a couple of months ago that made me laugh to myself. HAHAHA, I'm laughing now just thinking about it. Primetime rush hour, I got a seat, the banks of seats face eachother on this older model train. A couple of stops into the ride an older man, in his mid 50's-early 60's gets on, finds a seat just accross from me next to a guy in his early 20's. I'm reading my book, as commute time is my main stu
Never had a blog before, see how it goes. Looking at other peoples blogs, words seem to flow easily and are a pleasant read. Ursus particularly appears to be able to write descriptively and clearly on just about anything. I doubt you'll find that here as I tend to be to the point, matter of fact, if it takes 3 sentences to say, why bother kind of attitude. Guess that's why I've been divorced twice, hehehehe!
I've been reading things here and there about the EU mandating, on penalty of an incredible fine, that Microsoft ship its own product Windows without Microsoft's own media player and to reveal parts of its programming code to rivals. Microsoft has already settled with the U.S. Justice Department, revealing code and allowing PC makers and conumsers to hide the bundled software. All this in the name of 'fair competition'.
This isn't just about Microsoft, it's about property rights. Personally
Ah, alas, I haven't written on this lovely blog of mine for a while, but I'm coming back to it with the start of the new year. With the new year, new relevations have come about me.
Among the strangest of these, is I've realized that I have a friend, who is an almost exact personification in what I see wrong with lots of things, other kids my age more specificaly.
Let me set the picture for you, she is a relitively successful student. She does not fail, but she does not ace every class.
My New Year began with new job. It was so suddenly for me and I still don't know is my job good or bad for me.
Yes, I think maybe it's good because I can work and study at the same time and I'll have even a bit more time for study. On the other hand my new job is so far from my plans for future and may be like occasional employment only.
Well, I'll see all world but very briefly and mostly it'll a bird's-eye view. lol
I'll see Istanbul tomorrow.
Hi, Byzantium!
There was always a way to use an integrated spell checker on the forum, however it was only available if you use the rich text editor, and this one had some serious bugs, so i never mentioned it...
With the latest upgrade of our forum software (2.1.4), most of those issues have been fixed, so i am happy to explain it how it works...
First, this only works with Internet Explorer...
You need to install the spell checker software here ---> http://www.iespell.com/download.php then go
Thought you might enjoy a photo I took while in Rome this summer. Note the focal point: the Roman Senate building, still standing while the Basilica Julii is in ruins. Yes!
American religious broadcaster and all-around wacko Pat Robertson was talking to God recently (or at least stopped taking his meds), when Robertson learned that Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon's stroke was caused by the Vengeance of God. Apparently God is none-too-pleased about the Likud-founder/bolting prime minister
"dividing God's land" .
No word from Robertson yet about why God was OK with Saladin and his little capture of Jerusalem. Maybe God just likes turbans. Or maybe Pat Rober
Ok, so I went to see my dad's side of the family over christmas break. It was pretty hectic sometimes, but I'm really glad I went. I got to see Chronicles of Narnia, its a great movie, I highly recommend it. We got to the theatre late, but that only meant we missed the boring part where they set up the plot, and got there just as Mr. Tomnas entered the picture
SO I get home. Now, all of my teachers assigned work over vacation (well...many of them did.) It's the "you're going on vacation so
I was cross checking the contents of the "Roman Herbal Gallery" and I see that a fair amount of information has built up . For quick reference I am now adding a list of names versus main properties:
Orchis-aphrodisiac/mucilage-(Roman amatory stimulant)
Ruta graveolens (Rue)-antaphrodisiac/bitter (Roman "cold shoulder", stomach medicine)
Absinthum (Wormwood))-anthelmintic/hallucogen (and to counteract Hemlock by the Greeks)
Convolvulous (morning glory)-purgative/abortifactant
Recieved this from Dr. Whyte just now:
Dear Sean:
I would be happy to send a letter to Jon Leader. The pictures you sent are of artifacts dating (mostly) to the mid-Holocene (Middle Archaic, Morrow Mountain points). I must have seen others if I said Late Pleistocene/Early Holocene. What kind of landform is the site on? Has it been plowed? If so, do you think there may be preserved parts of the site below the plow zone? What is the estimated site size? These things may halp me argue the c
A joyous new year to you all.
I am putting this here so that only those who wish to make the effort will be reading.
I am writing this under a strain that I never thought I could bear, but I am. It is about our daughter, Mariann Elizabeth. She is in trouble and we will probably be losing her.
Tests came back last Thursday that she has deletions on one arm of her chromosome make-up, specifically the P4 arm. These deletions lead to a widespread number of problems including major heart
Amazingly enough, Dr. Leader replied yesterday afternoon after I had left my office:
** High Priority **
Hi Sean,
Please write me a formal letter outlining every bit of information you have concerning the archaeological resources on site. Make sure that you include the total number and forms of artifacts collected from the property. Photographs would not hurt. Understand that a single point out of context will not cut it. Please contact Dr. Whyte to write a letter of support for the
Yesterday I posted an image in the Gallery of an Paleo-Indian spear point I found in South Carolina in 1991. Unfortunately during the Holidays I have come to learn that a portion of the land where I found that and other artifacts is in grave danger...
I will let this e-mail I just sent to the Director of the South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology explian:
Dear Dr. Leader,
I am writing to you and the SCIAA in general with an urgent plea for help.
There is an enda
The herb from which Absinthe is made .As a medicine it is excellent, strongly anthelmintic ( worm killer) and choleretic (bile stimulant) amongst other virtues. Thujone though (a volatile oil from the plant ) is a nasty hallucogen and is addictive-hence the problems suffered in 19th Century France. If the thujone is removed though the virtues of the medicine remain. I understand that ,like quassia , the wood was used for bowls and drinking vessels thereby flavouring and influencing whatever was co
I really need to do an exhaustive study on this issue...

As you can see, this image is from an academic source on the Celtiberians. The caption for the photo claims it to be Numatian from the 1st Century BC. Well, that may have been the location and strata where it finally laid, but that is Anatolin Greek Geometric if I've ever seen it. The 2 vulture motif goes back to days of Catal Huyuk...
I really hate seeing these thing
Well its currently 1:00 in the Afternoon here and I have opened all my presents. I got alot of cool stuff.......the things that I am most thrilled about our my body armor (athletic shirt) my hand crafted Hawaiian Chess board and my Egypitian Ahnk. (Thats right Ursus, get jealous of it!) Its made of almost pure silver and cost my mom a preety penny. Other then that today I am sick and I am rather light headed. But yeah I am just sitting around relaxing listening to Enya music.
Tonight were g
I love Christmas. I hope everyone here had a very merry one
My mom actually managed to surprise me for once, with lots of great drawing supplies (including a set of the ENTIRE line of Polychromos colored pencils...and really cool Derwent metallic pencils. Derwent is my favorite company for graphite and charcoal work, but their colored things are nice too) and did a (quick, 45 minute) sketch of a bird in graphite, tinted with the metallics and the colored pencils, which I am VERY happy with
My grandma (85 years old) was invited to have dinner with my mother, so we go there in the late afternoon to pick her up. She was almost ready, just need to brush her hair, get dressed and off we go downstairs to the car...
Well she slipped at the last staircase and bang there she was lying on the floor not able to move. We tried to get her up but to no avail. So we call the ambulance, they arrive pretty soon afterwards, moved her to the hospital and there they made x-rays examinations etc..
Once all human feelings met in a forest. When Boredom yawned again, Madness offered: "Let's play hide-and-seek?!" Intrigue raised eyebrowes: "Hide-and seek? What is the game???" And the Madness explained, that one of them, (for example, me, Madness), closes the eyes and counts up to one million while the others are hidden. Who will be found last is lost. Enthusiasm began to dance with Euphoria, Pleasure jumped so gaily, that could persuade Doubt. Only Apathy refused to participate in the game be
As a few of you already know, I am an unashamed beer aficionado. My love for beer coupled with my love for ancient history and literature often motivates me to search for anecdotes within ancient sources that deal with the sublime beverage.
Recently I came across something that I honestly admit, I did not know before. I have no doubt that Pertinax is well versed in this but apparently, the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans all highly esteemed cabbage as the number one remedy for hangovers.
I was just adding the Convolvulus (Morning Glory) entry to my Herbal album in the gallery and I realised that I have now managed to present a passable Toxicological catalogue.
May I regale you with the basic categories of plant toxins:
1. Inebriants-exciting cerebral functions, cause loss of co-ordination, deep sleep or fatal coma may follow.
2.Deliriant- spectral illusions and deliriousness: thirst often a direct side effect:may lead to paralysis.
3.Convulsivant-Intermittent spasms(head
I am not sure if all people know what a rss feed and a feedread is, so i will explain it a bit first...
more information here ---> What is RSS
Now that you know what rss is, and that the Unrv.com Blog has a RSS Feed, you need a RSS Reader to get that info without actually having to go to the site. For example i use Firefox (you should too) and there is a simple Rss Reader extension called Wizz RSS News Reader, just install that and then you get a nice RSS Agregator Toolbar, where you ca
